Description

NOISETRAC Training Material Content – E-Learning Course

The NOISETRAC Training Material Content e-learning course is a comprehensive online learning solution designed to help employers, supervisors, safety representatives, and employees identify, assess, and control noise hazards in the workplace. This non-credit bearing e-learning course supports compliance with South African occupational health and safety legislation while promoting awareness and prevention of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL).

Excessive workplace noise is a leading cause of occupational disease and reduced productivity. The NOISETRAC Training Material Content e-learning course delivers structured, self-paced learning that equips learners with essential knowledge of noise exposure risks, legal obligations, and effective control measures—anytime, anywhere.

This e-learning course is ideal for organisations in construction, manufacturing, engineering, mining, logistics, workshops, warehousing, and industrial environments, as well as any workplace where noise exposure may exceed permissible limits.

Structured Online Learning Modules

The NOISETRAC Training Material Content e-learning course is divided into eight professionally developed modules, guiding learners from foundational concepts to practical workplace application.

Module 1 – Overview of Sound, Noise & the Human Ear
Learners are introduced to sound terminology, sound pressure, equivalent continuous sound, and the four types of sound. This module explains how the human ear functions and assists learners in recognising whether a noise problem exists in their workplace.

Module 2 – Legal Requirements
This module provides a clear overview of applicable legislation, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act (85 of 1993) and the Noise-Induced Hearing Loss Regulations. Learners gain an understanding of legal definitions, exposure limits, and the 85 dBA noise-rating limit.

Module 3 – Employer Responsibilities
The NOISETRAC Training Material Content e-learning course explains employer duties to inform, instruct, and train employees, as well as the responsibilities of persons who may be exposed to workplace noise.

Module 4 – Noise-Induced Hearing Loss as an Occupational Disease
Learners explore how continuous noise exposure affects health, safety, and productivity. This module covers NIHL, deafness caused by toxins, and other non-auditory health effects, reinforced through interactive learner activities.

Module 5 – Workplace Hazard Identification
This module focuses on identifying sources of noise, conducting basic hazard identification and risk assessments, and understanding barriers to implementing noise control. The NOISETRAC Training Material Content e-learning course also introduces workplace noise audits, sound measurement techniques, sound level meters, and noise dosimeters.

Module 6 – Personal Medical Surveillance
Learners gain insight into medical surveillance requirements, audiometric testing, baseline and periodic audiograms, testing frequencies, record-keeping, new employee procedures, and the management of hearing deterioration.

Module 7 – Protective Control Measures
This module explains noise zones, required control measures, additional noise reduction strategies, and the importance of maintaining and recording control measures in accordance with regulations.

Module 8 – Hearing Protective Equipment (HPE)
The NOISETRAC Training Material Content e-learning course concludes with detailed guidance on hearing protection, including PPE requirements, selecting suitable HPE, advantages and disadvantages of common hearing protectors, correct use, storage, hygiene, foam ear-plug fitting, and disease and infection control.
